2007 QUEEN OF
QUEENS INFORMATION
The
deadline to enter Queen of
Queens and to have all
ads turned in will be
December 15, 2006
because of the early dates for Convention 2007. LAFF
will still take entries until January 1, 2007, but no photographs of any
queens entered after the deadline of December 1st will be put
in the program book.
It is very important
that every sponsoring fair or festival know that LAFF will not be
blocking hotel rooms for queens in 2007. It is up
to each individual organization to make their hotel room reservations
for their queens.
The Pageant
Director’s Meeting will be 10:00 p.m. Friday night, as in the past.
If anyone is interested in serving on the 2007
Pageant Committee, please get in touch with me. 2007 will be my last
year to serve as Pageant Coordinator and I look forward to working with
as many of you as possible.
QUEEN OF QUEEN’S HOSPITALITY
ATTENTION ALL FESTIVALS: we are looking for sweets
and other treats to be
put into the hospitality room for all the Queens.
If your festival can help please email either Linda Jennings@
cypress@bellsouth.net or Susan Sennet at grannysue12@yahoo.com.
Thank you in advance for your generous donations.
Thanks,
Linda Jennings

PRESIDENT’s MESSAGE:
Merry Christmas and Happy New Years to everyone.
Just a reminder that the Queen of Queens packets
and pageant program books must be turned in by December 15th,
not December 1st.
As everyone knows Janet Piraro will no longer be
the pageant coordinator after the 2007 Queen of Queens (Pageant)
Convention. She has done a remarkable job for so many years.
After making an announcement of Janet’s intention
to “retire” and the position with the pageant becoming available; the
LAFF Board of Directors received several interested applicants. It has
been decided that we will now have instead of one pageant coordinator,
for the 2007 convention, the following qualified ladies that have been
assigned certain positions: Millie Harris, Cheryl McCarty, Doreen
Landry, Judy LeBlanc, Linda Jennings & Susan Sennet. These ladies will
work closely with Janet for the Queen of Queens Pageant. We look forward
to working with each one of them.
I just want to thank Chris - District #5 Director
with the State Fair for allowing LAFF to come in to assist him with his
Queens Pageant, it was a great success. It was great to see so many
people at the State Fair, it is really a big event. After leaving the
State Fair in Shreveport, along with some of my 4th of July
Queens, we headed down to Colfax to the Pecan Festival. The weather was
great, had a large crowd.
The second weekend of November I attended
Thibodeauxville where I met with Al Dupré and his family. I would like
to thank Al for taking time out to show me the entire grounds, this was
my first time attending and I was amazed at the amount of people that
attended this event.
I hope that everyone is receiving their packets
and completing them. I also hope that those who are interested in the
marketing awards are getting their items together, and sending their
paperwork to Jim Meaux District 3 Director.
Please say a special prayer for Kaye Ladner and her
family, her grandson is having surgery.
s/ Dennis Mouton
TREASURER’s MESSAGE:
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone!
I'm sorry I missed the last newsletter, but I surely hope that everyone
had a Happy Thanksgiving! We really do have a lot for which to be
thankful!
I would like to invite everyone to participate in
your LAFF Convention on February 1-4 by helping with a committee,
bringing food from your event to the hospitality room(s), bringing
available souvenirs from your event to the Country Store (funds are used
for the Marketing Awards program), bringing auction items, etc. I know
that all committee chairpersons would be very grateful (especially
convention chairman Paul McGee) for your assistance.
On October 21 I attended the International Rice
Festival Pageant in downtown Crowley. It was great as usual! I also
visited their food booths and arts and crafts vendors.
On October 28, the LAFF board meeting was held
near Many and co-hosted by several festivals/fairs from that area. Many
thanks to Alisa Yelverton and her committee members for the wonderful
hospitality and meeting facilities!
On November 4 I judged the State Fair of Louisiana
Queens' Pageant with 2 very nice women from Arkansas. Many thanks go
out to Chris Giordano and to Rob and Janet Piraro for the great
hospitality, room at the Diamond Jack Casino, etc. I didn't get to
visit any other part of the fair, but Neal did and raved about how great
it was!
On November 12, a LAFF Queen of Queens Committee
Meeting was held in Baton Rouge. Much was accomplished and many thanks
go out to all whom attended and agreed to assist Janet this year!
Once again -- all you need to do is call at
337-893-6328 or email me at nhoraist@cox.net should you need any
assistance with your event.
Have a very blessed Christmas holiday,
s/ Barbara Horaist

DISTRICT
3 DIRECTOR
By the time everyone reads
this, Thanksgiving will already have come and gone. I hope everyone had
a wonderful Thanksgiving. We are in full holiday season now. Before you
know it Christmas and a New Year will be upon us. This year has gone by
very fast. After all the holidays are over then we can start looking
forward to the convention in Baton Rouge.
I am starting to get
the award items in; the deadline is December 1, 2006. After that they
will be judged, so we can get the plagues done in time for the
convention. There is still time to send them in, so please don’t forget
to forward those items to me.
We went to the
Cattle Festival and Pageant to start off this month. Vicki had the
pleasure of judging La. Cattle Pageant. As usual Barbara and Neal work
hard every year putting on this pageant. When you love doing this it is
easy work. We were asked to judge the Cal-Cam Jr, pageant. Unfortunate,
during their festival week the weather did not cooperate for them, but
the people still supported the festival. I would like to thank the
people of Cal-Cam for the helping in getting my vehicle out of the mud.
Then we had the pleasure of judging for Christmas on the Bayou Pageant.
A gracious Thank You to Sharon Tassin & Mr. Manny for their hospitality
for the weekend. The weather was really cold for that weekend so it set
the mood for a Christmas setting.
Over the past few
months I have been considering running for Vice President of the LAFF
board. After
speaking to some board
members (have not been able to personally speak to all yet but plan to)
and emailing all board members I am now ready to make my decision. I am
now announcing that I will run for Vice President. That means that the
District 3 seat on the board will need to be filled. If anyone in
District 3 wishes to run for this seat the election will be during the
convention in February. I am asking for everyone’s support for the
election at convention in February. Hope to speak to as many members as
possible during this time.
We had the
pleasure of attending the wedding of Al and Mona Dupré son in Morgan
City. We would like to say congratulations to Ben and Loretta Dupré.
Wishing a safe
& Happy Holiday Season to everyone.
s/ Jim Meaux
DISTRICT 7 DIRECTOR
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, and want
to wish all of you a belated “Happy Thanksgiving”. The past couple of
months have been filled with activities in the District and being clumsy
didn’t help either, but it didn’t slow me down, except for long distance
travel. I am now back to abnormal, and hope to see everyone along the
road again. I had the honor of attending the Queen of Hearts Pageant on
November 4th, part of the ‘St. Charles Parish Fall Festival, and it was
great. It did get cool at night, but the mood was great, the music was
superb and the food smelled like heaven, it was a church event.
Congrats to the outgoing royalty of Queen of Hearts, and welcome again
to the incoming royalty, The Miss Queen of Hearts for the coming year is
Ashlyn Falgout, a very lovely young lady who will serve her festival
well. On the next weekend, the10th ,11th, and 12th,
I had my own hometown festival, the Westwego Cypress Swamp Festival, and
I am proud to welcome our new Miss Queen, the Lovely, Dontrell
Williams. Caitlyn Gilbert relinquished her crown on the 29th
of October and we will miss her, but I’m sure we haven’t heard the last
of her. I had the honor of judging the Bon Mongé Festival Pageant on
the 18th, and they crowned their new Queen, Miss Melissa
Milano. The lovely Danyelle Savoy relinquished her crown after doing a
fantastic job and traveling over 8000 miles this past year.
The year is swiftly coming to and end, and the
convention is just days away. I hope everyone has made their
reservations and registered for the convention. I am sure this
convention will again be one of the very best ever. Paul McGee our
Convention Chairman and the committees are working diligently to provide
you as much information as possible to help your fair or festival to be
more successful. I am in need of items for the ditty bags, no matter
what it is, we’ll take it, cups, pencils, scratch pads, whatever….
It’s just a little treasure our members look forward to, every year. If
you can assist me in this endeavor, we are looking for about 500 pieces
so that everyone who is registered can take home their little treasures,
but would be thankful for smaller donations. If your organization
doesn’t have anything, but a business in your community does; ask them
to help your organization and to get their name and your community
recognized by all the delegates. I almost feel like I’m begging, you
know what -- I am!
On another note, I have received calls about the
LAFF Discussion Board. As a Board Member, I didn’t know we had one, but
I understand that some people use this for very worthwhile purposes.
But some people I am told are using it to “bash” others, some of them
children only 10 years old. Please live by a saying many of us learned
as kids, and I feel it is not being passed on to the next generation,
“If you can’t say something good, don’t say anything at all!” That is
my personal comment and not as a representative of the Louisiana
Association of Fairs and Festivals, it Directors, Board or membership.
{Editor’s Note – LAFF does not
sponsor or approve content of this message board. It is a service for
communication for queens and friends provided by an individual member of
LAFF}
That being said, I want to wish you all, a very
MERRY CHRISTMAS and a VERY PROSPEROUS AND SAFE HOLIDAY SEASON, from
Tootsie and Myself. Hope to see you all in February at the convention.
