MYRON J. LA FARGUE

1914-1973

Myron J. La Fargue was born August 8, 1914, in Baldwin, Louisiana, the second child of Dr. Alvan H. Lafargue, Sr. and Florestine Marie Richard. His father was a medical doctor and his mother was the daughter of a prominent sugar cane planter. At an early age, his family moved from Baldwin to Sulphur where he completed his primary education years.

He began his work career with the Louisiana-Western Lumber Company and after several years with that company started his own business under the name of Builders Supply Company which he successfully operated for many years in Sulphur.

As his father, who founded the Calcasieu Cameron Fair, grew older he began to assist him in producing the annual Agriculture Fair. When his father died in 1963 he became the President and General Manager of the local fair and, in that capacity began to attend the meetings of the Louisiana Association of Fairs and Festivals in an active role. He was elected President of the State organization for the 1966-1967 term during the annual convention in Baton Rouge. Following his term as President, he became its Secretary-Treasurer and served in that capacity until his death.

It was during that period that the Louisiana Association of Fairs and Festivals was established as a major State organization and Louisiana became the leading State in the Union for fairs and festivals. He was active and attended the annual meetings of the International Fairs and Festivals representing Louisiana on an international level. He was instrumental in calling attention to the state officials on the Affect fairs and festivals had on tourism when the state was becoming aware of the economic impact that industry had within the state.

Like his father before him, he received the honor of having the 1973 Louisiana Association of Fairs and Festivals dedicated to his memory and the dedicated work he provided to this organization. It is for these reasons that he is now inducted into the LAFF Hall of Fame.
