1992 Inductee

PRUDENCE (PRU) BURNS

            CAL-CAM'S FAIR LADY.

That is how the people in Cameron Parish know Prudence (Pru) Burns. After all, she's been there for as long as she has lived. In fact, her Father, Dr. Alvan H. LaFargue, founded the Cal-Cam Fair in Sulphur in 1924.

A member of the Louisiana Association of Fairs and Festivals since 1971, "Pru" has served as a member of the Board of Directors (1980-1990), Vice-President and Convention Chairman (1983-84) and President(1984).She served as the Queen of Queens Pageant Director in 1981, 1982, 1988 and 1989 and was a member of the Nominating Committee in 1987. She has also served as Registration Chairman four times at the annual convention.

As a teenager, "Pru" worked in various capacities for the Cal-Cam Fair, including clerk for the livestock show and Secretary/Clerk for the American Quarter Horse Show. As an adult, she has served the Cal-Cam Fair as Secretarial Assistant, Secretary, Vice President and Director/Coach for the Queens and the Alternates.

Ms. Burns has worked with other State Fairs and Festivals as a pageant consultant and is a member of the Louisiana Pageant Judges Association. She has devised a scoring system that is used in pageants throughout the state.

From running errands for her father at the Cal-Cam Fair to leading the state's premier tourism association, Prudence (Pru) Burns has worked hard to promote fairs and festivals. Often called outspoken, she lives by the code her Father established for her family: "Your word is your bond; your handshake is your promise. When you say you're going to do something, you do it to the best of your ability and with the most of the people in mind.

That is the essence of excellence.

That is Prudence (Pru) Burns.
