Established in 1976, the Amite Oyster Festival was founded by a group of local citizens to honor the oyster industry and the many oyster houses that once defined the town of Amite. Over the past 50 years, the festival has grown and evolved, becoming a beloved annual tradition held the 3rd weekend in March. Our festival offers something for everyone - from thrilling rides and live music, to arts & crafts vendors, delicious food and oysters in every style imaginable! Each year, festivities begin with the popular Scavenger Hunt, followed by the brunch & fashion show. Excitement continues into the following weekend with the elegant Amite Oyster Gala, where guests enjoy live music, mouthwatering chargrilled oysters, and a silent auction featuring local artwork and unique items. On the 3rd weekend, join us in the heart of downtown Amite for the celebration we all look forward to each year. The fun kicks off Friday with the annual chili cook-off and Saturday morning the streets come alive with our festive parade - featuring the Amite Oyster Royalty. Throughout the weekend, enjoy live performances, great food and family friendly entertainment. Don't forget to stop by Festival Headquarters, The Oyster House at 112 E. Mulberry Street, to pick up your official souvenirs! A weekend you don't want to miss - when the community comes together, traditions are celebrated, and memories are made with family and friends! Join us March 20 - 22, 2026, as we celebrate "50 Years Of All Things Oyster" on the streets of downtown Amite!
