Every year on July 4th, Bogalusa celebrates both the city’s birthday and Independence Day. The Louisiana Paper Queen, sponsored by the American Legion Post 24, plays a central role in the festivities. The celebration kicks off with the Ball, held the weekend before the 4th of July, and continues with a lively parade on July 4th honoring both the nation’s independence and the city’s founding. The celebration concludes with a breathtaking firework show. The queen proudly represents the Veterans of Bogalusa, Independence Day, and the paper industry that has long been a cornerstone of the community.

The festival is a deeply rooted festival with a Cajun flare in Ascension Parish that is based around Jambalaya and Cracklin’ cook-offs. We have over 90 teams of two that compete in these cook-offs to keep the tradition of cooking pork alive and well in our area. We have arts and crafts vendors, 12 hot air balloons (that come from as far away as Michigan), live Cajun and Swamp pop music and a family fun kids zone.

The world-famous Crawfish Festival began in 1960 as a spin-off of the Breaux Bridge Centennial Celebration. The Louisiana Legislature had just named Breaux Bridge the Crawfish Capital of the World in 1959. Every first full weekend in May, thousands of people flock to Breaux Bridge to be part of the festivities. All weekend long you can hear the sound of 30 authentic Cajun, Zydeco, and Swamp Pop music. Watch the Cajun & Zydeco dance contests, parade, Crawfish Races, Crawfish Eating Contests, visit the many arts and craft vendors and food vendors with crawfish cooked every way imaginable.

The Cal Cam Fair takes place the first weekend in October starting with our Junior and Miss Pageant on the Thursday night. Friday is our special citizens’ day, talent show, and karaoke night. Saturday and Sunday are packed with livestock shows, our local schools show choirs, invitational bull fight and mutton bustin. A 2 day, family friendly FREE festival includes a Kids’ World, French Immersion kids performance, charity walk and bike ride, antique cars and implements, tractor egg cracking contest, music, food, and a juried art show under the beautiful oak trees of Magdalen Square. The International Rice Festival, one of Louisiana’s largest and oldest agricultural celebrations, will mark its 88th year in October 2025 in Crowley. The Iowa Rabbit Festival started in 1986 to promote a local rabbit processing plant and has grown to be one of the top 20 events in the Southeastern United States. The event features a Bunny Ball (weekend before the festival), Rabbit Show, Food and Craft vendors, carnival, Rabbit Cook-Off, Music and a pageant (held in April). When the crowd capacity outgrew Iowa City Park, the festival was moved to Burton Coliseum Complex in Lake Charles. There are also RV hooks-ups available.

Also known as the Lockport Food Festival, is a cultural event sponsored by several charitable organizations. Held in Lafourche Parish for over 25 years, the organizations include the Lockport Volunteer Fire Department, Lockport Carnival Club, Rotary Club of Lockport, K.C.
